The Farmingdale Chess Club (FCC) was founded in 2007. Our mission:
CLUB OFFICERS:
We meet on periodic Saturday mornings from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM on the lower level of the Farmingdale Public Library, 116 Merritts Rd. Farmingdale, NY 11735. Click here for directions. The playing area is well lit, climate controlled, wheelchair accessible, and non-smoking. Spectators and visitors are welcome. Please note the library is not our "headquarters." As per library policy, we are able to request one of the meeting rooms for our periodic use since many of our players are Farmingdale residents. Check the Tournament Schedule to see which days we meet. Rounds begin at 10:00 AM sharp. Please bring pieces, boards, clocks, and pen/pencil – none are provided. The FCC is an affiliate of the United States Chess Federation and all games are rated as such. USCF membership is required. Non-members or those with expired memberships will not be eligible to participate under any circumstances. It is each player’s responsibility to keep his/her membership up to date. To join or renew in minutes, please visit www.uschess.org. Memberships/renewals will not be available at the tournament site. Byes: Half point byes are available for players who need to miss a round. The number of half point byes permitted will be listed for each tournament. Registration is from 9:15 - 9:45 AM the first week of each tournament (no advance entries), but players may enter after the first round with half point byes for rounds missed up to the maximum allowed. Players are expected to notify the director in advance if they need to miss a round by sending an e-mail to nfbellon@yahoo.com by 9:00 PM the night before the round to be missed. For last minute byes on the day of the round, call the TD's cell phone at 516-361-0263 by 9:00 AM. Last round byes must be requested during the first half of the tournament and are irrevocable. Furthermore, any player who does who does not play in the last round (except if a half point bye was requested) will not be eligible to receive a prize. Do not miss a round without giving notice! This is extremely rude and irresponsible and deprives a player of a game. Forfeit losses due to non-appearance wreak havoc on the integrity of the tournament and will not be tolerated by the FCC. A player who doesn’t request a bye and fails to appear will be required to pay a fine equal to the entry fee in order to continue playing at the club. Further offences will lead to stiffer penalties at the discretion of the TD. FCC tournaments feature slow time controls, reasonable entry fees, and a convenient Saturday morning playing time. In addition, the FCC does NOT charge a membership fee. Clocks with the time delay feature are the preferred standard for the FCC, though analog clocks are permitted if both players agree.
